Good News Stories
Name: Anthony Salt
Age: 51
Previous Job Role: Pottery Worker
New Job Role: LGV Driver

Anthony had worked for H&R Johnson as a Pottery Worker for 30 years when he was faced with redundancy.

This was a double blow for Anthony as he suspected he was dyslexic and was apprehensive about the future and the prospect of retraining.

Following an individualised advice and guidance meeting with an advisor from the North Staffs Workforce Development Project, a dyslexia assessment was arranged.

This confirmed that Anthony has dyslexia and was followed up by a multi-sensory tuition course funded by the project which helped him to develop strategies to overcome his disability.

Following this Anthony was able to undertake Class 2 Driver Training with a local provider, and has been successful in gaining new employment as a Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) Driver with a national company.

Anthony thanked the project for their help and support and tells us that he is "loving" his new job role.

Name: Joanne Baker

New Job Role: Self-Emp. Plasterer/Plumber

Joanne had previously worked for a prestigious ceramic manufacturer as a member of the Stock Control Team when she was made redundant.

Following an individualised advice and guidance meeting with an advisor from the North Staffs Workforce Development Project, Joanne felt that there was a gap in the market for ladies in a traditionally male dominated field - and decided to undertake training in Plastering and Plumbing.

Joanne has since become self-employed in this field under the business name 'Lady Trader'.
